The Medical Advisory Board (MAB) is an integral component in the
R.I. workers' compensation system. The MAB was given the responsibility to
formulate protocols and standards of treatment for work-related injuries. The
protocols were first established in 1992 and have been reviewed and revised
several times since. The MAB is presently reviewing all of the protocols and
will make revisions as necessary. If a provider has input regarding a
particular protocol, contact John McBurney IV, administrator, at 1-401-458-3460
or attend one of the MAB meetings. They are held every 4-6 weeks and are
open to the public.
