Investigating & Preventing Outdoor Slip & Fall Injuries

The employer’s goal is to reduce the risk of injuries and incidents by maintaining a well-lit workplace, having walking surfaces with appropriate traction, implementing footwear policies, eliminating trip hazards and training workers.

We encourage all employers to investigate all workplace incidents, both those that cause harm and the close calls that could have caused harm under slightly different circumstances.

Using the following four-step investigation process to identify underlying root causes include:

  1. Preserve and document the scene.
  2. Collect information.
  3. Determine root causes.
  4. Implement corrective actions.

Upon completion of this seminar, attendees will be able to recognize potential outdoor slip, trip, & fall hazards, analyze & control hazards, develop safe work practices, and establish an effective program at their facility that will reduce exposures relating to slip, trip, and fall hazards.
